Abstract

A series of 3H-benzo[f]chromen-3-ones containing the (2-hydroxy-1-naphthyl)methyl or 2-hydroxybenzyl substituent in position 2 was prepared by the reaction of 2-trifluoroacetyl-1H-benzo[f]chromenes with 2-naphthols in the presence of DBU. The reaction comprises 1,4-addition and intramolecular haloform type reaction followed by opening of the dihydropyran ring.
