Abstract

This microreview summarizes the latest advances in the synthesis of coumarins via Pechmann condensation by taking advantage of green chemistry strategies. A total of 12 studies between 2015 and 2021 are
discussed in this article.

Guilherme Arraché Gonçalves earned his pharmacy degree from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in 2018. At present, he is an MSc student in pharmaceutical sciences at UFRGS under the supervision of V.L. Eifler-Lima. His research interests include heterocyclic compounds, infectious diseases, and cancer research.

Dr. Vera Lucia Eifler-Lima is currently a Professor in the Faculty of Pharmacy at UFRGS. Her research involves the design, synthesis, and pharmacological/toxicological evaluation of heterocyclic compounds aiming at the identification of new antitumor (inhibitors of Eg5 kinesin, CD73) and antiparasitic (Leishmania and Chagas disease) hits. She is the Coordinator of the Laboratory of Medicinal Organic Synthesis® (LaSOM®).
