Abstract

Fusing 1,2-diaminodibenzothiophene dihydrochloride with urea and thiourea led to the formation of benzo[b]thiophene[3,2-e]benzimidazolone and benzo[b]thiophene[3,2-e]benzimidazolethione. 3H-Benzo-[b]thiophene[3,2-e]benzimidazole was used to obtain 3-ethylbenzo[b]thiophene[3,2-e]benzimidazole, 3-ethylbenzo[b]thiophene[3,2-e]benzimidazole-2-thione, and 3-ethylbenzo[b]thiophene[3,2‑e]benz-imidazole-2-sulfonic acid.
