Abstract

The reaction of (2E,4E)-2-cyano-5-phenylpenta-2,4-dienethio(seleno)amides with formaldehyde and primary aromatic amines gives 3,8,10-trisubstituted 6-phenyl-3,4,6a,7,8,9,10,10a-octahydro-2H,6H-pyrimido[4',5':4,5]pyrido[2,1-b][1,3,5]thia(selena)diazine-11-carbonitriles. The latter were also obtained by a multicomponent condensation of cinnamaldehyde, cyanothioacetamide, formaldehyde, and anilines in the presence of catalytic amounts of base. The structure of the 3,8,10-tri(4-methylphenyl)-6-phenyl-3,4,6a,7,8,9,10,10a-octahydro-2H,6H-pyrimido[4',5':4,5]pyrido[2,1-b][1,3,5]thiadiazine-11-carbonitrile was studied by X-ray structural analysis.
