Synthesis and transformations of 4-hydroxy-5-methyl-2-trifluoromethylpyridine

Abstract

4-Hydroxy-5-methyl-2-trifluoromethylpyridine was synthesized from 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-6-trifluoromethyl-2,3-dihydro-4H-pyran-4-one. Its methylation leads to the formation of a mixture of N- and O-alkylation products, which were isolated chromatographically in the pure state. Convenient methods of their preparation are proposed.
