Abstract

Cyclopent-4-ene-1,3-diones fused with heterocycles are important electron-withdrawing anchor groups in the design of non-fullerene acceptors that find applications in organic bulk heterojunction solar cells. This microreview summarizes synthesis of these heterocyclic compounds to create non-fullerene acceptors and their use in highly efficient solar cells.
