Abstract

6-Aminouracil and its derivatives as a versatile reactant are applied for the formation of heterocyclic compounds with biological and pharmacological properties. The present review addresses the recent research in the synthesis of heterocycles using 6-aminouracil and thiouracil derivatives as starting compounds for the period of 2014–2024. Reports were categorized based on the type of target heterocycle  such as pyridopyrimidine, pyrimidopyrimidine, pyrimidoquinoline, pyranopyrimidine derivatives, etc. The main aim of this review is to provide a summary of recently reported procedures for the synthesis of fused heterocycles with uracil framework for organic and medicinal chemists.
