Abstract

By analogy with the 4-hydroxy derivatives, the bromination of N-allyl-4-methyl-2-oxo-1,2-dihydro-quinoline-3-carboxylic acid leads to the closure  of a five membered oxazole ring but, in contrast, it forms the 2-bromomethyl-4-carboxy-5-methyl-1,2-dihydrooxazolo[3,2-a]quinolinium bromide salt.
