Abstract

Addition of alkyl(aryl)trichlorornethylketones to acrylonitrile in the presence of copper(I) chloride gave chlorine-substituted δ-oxonitriles. Cyclization of the latter was effected by the action of dry hydrogen chloride yielding the corresponding chlorine-containing tetrahydropyridines and pyridines.
