Abstract

The review summarizes the work devoted to the preparation of pyrrolo[3,4-c]pyridine-1,3-dione (5-azaphthalimide) derivatives over the last 10 years. Methods for the synthesis of pyrrolo[3,4-c]pyridine-1,3-dione derivatives are divided into three groups: annulation of the pyrrole moiety, annulation of the pyridine ring, and tandem closure of two rings.
