Abstract

The reactions of NH- and N-vinyl-4,5,7-trimethyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydropyrrolo-[3,2-c]pyridines and their 2-substituted derivatives with acetic and trifluoroacetic anhydrides have been studied. Trifluoroacetylation of  tetrahydropyrrolo-[3,2-c]pyridines occurs at the α-position of the pyrrole ring, whereas cleavage of the tetrahydropyridine ring with formation of 3-vinylpyrroles occurs with acetic anhydride. 2-Acetyl-4,5,7-trimethyl-1-vinyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydropyrrolo[3,2-c]pyridine was synthesized by the Vilsmeier–Haack reaction.
