Abstract

Nucleophilic addition of secondary phosphine sulfides to an aldehyde of the azole series occurs under noncatalytic conditions in THF at room temperature and enables the preparation in high yield of imidazoles and benzimidazoles with thiophosphoryl and hydroxyl groups, which are promising building blocks for organic synthesis and polydentate ligands for metal complexes.
