Abstract

An efficient, environmentally friendly protocol was developed for the synthesis of 4-substituted 1,5-benzodiazepines via a one-pot threecomponent reaction. o-Phenylenediamines, dimedone, and aldehydes were reacted in the presence of silica-supported orthophosphoric acid (H3PO4·SiO2) as an environmentally friendly, heterogeneous catalyst at 70°C to produce 4-substituted 1,5-benzodiazepines. High to excellent yields, metal-free, environmentally friendly, reusable catalyst, and faster reactivity are the notable features of the developed protocol.
